Message from event Patron, The Hon. Scott Morrison, MP – Federal Member for Cook

StandardPhotoSMIt is once again my great pleasure to serve as patron of the 2015 IMB Cook Community Classic.

Now in its eighth year, the Classic is a great family day out celebrating and supporting the local organisations that make our Sutherland Shire community strong. To date the Classic has raised over $500,000 for over 50 local charities and community organisations operating in the Shire such as 2nd Caringbah Scouts, Kookaburra Kids, Sylvanvale, The Beauty Bank, Cronulla Outriggers, NSW Homicide Victims Support Group, Project Youth, Neighbourhood Aid and many others including our four Bate Bay Surf Life Saving Clubs.

The IMB Bank Cook Community Classic relies on the generous support of our local surf lifesaving clubs and I thank once again Cronulla, North Cronulla, Elouera and Wanda for their willingness to support our wider Shire community.

I also extend my sincere gratitude to our great corporate supporters, particularly IMB Bank who is once again the major sponsor. IMB Bank have been with the Classic since 2008 and are a major contributor to our local community.

This year we welcome new supporters Woolooware Bay, Sylvania BMW and Kareena Hospital. We again thank the ongoing support from QANTAS, Olsen’s, AHA, Payce, Sydney Airport, ANSTO, Cronulla Sharks Football Club and McDonald’s Sutherland Shire Restaurants.

All the charities and community organisations we are supporting through the Classic are run by dedicated staff, often volunteers, who make tremendous efforts to care for our fellow Shire residents and help make a difference to the Shire’s wellbeing. Please take the time to support these worthy organisations by purchasing a ticket in our major prize raffle, attending the Gala Charity Dinner or by taking part in the many activities on the day including our ocean swim, beach football competition or just simply by coming along and enjoying the family carnival atmosphere.

I look forward to seeing you there,

Scott Signature Blue

Cook Community Classic LogoHave you noticed the new logo for the IMB Bank Cook Community Classic?

The new look celebrates exciting news for our major sponsor IMB Bank.

When the doors opened this week at IMB’s 44 branches, members saw for the first time the business name of IMB Bank.

IMB Bank 2015 LogoIMB was approved to become a mutual bank last month and now, 135 years after the Illawarra Mutual Building Society was established, the next stage of IMB’s evolution is complete.

Chief Executive Robert Ryan said members would notice little difference as IMB remains a member owned financial institution.

“IMB will still offer the same wide range of products and services with the same competitive interest rates as we have always done, providing a great alternative to the major banks in the Illawarra.

“It’s an exciting time as we begin this new chapter for IMB  and looking after our members and the communities in which we operate remains at the heart of our business.

“In the next few months, we will be introducing new technologies to make it easier for members to bank with us and the IMB Community Foundation has just announced another $500,000 to local communities, with more than $200,000 donated to 18 Illawarra projects,” he said.

The IMB Board made the decision to change to a mutual bank to support long-term growth strategies.

Research had revealed that younger people were unclear about what a building society offered and therefore did not consider IMB when they needed financial products.

“As IMB Bank, we look forward to helping a new generation of members with their needs,” Mr Ryan said.

IMB Bank serves around 180,000 members, has $5 billion in assets and 44 branch locations, including more branches in the Illawarra region than any other financial institution.

Who benefits from the 2015 IMB Bank Cook Community Classic?

CookCommunityClassic018The whole community! The Cook Community Classic reaches every community group and local charity residing in the Sutherland Shire, including sports clubs, local charities, school P&Cs and many other local groups. For those that wish to participate the opportunities are endless.

By registering to sell tickets to the raffle or taking a stall at the carnival, community groups receive the proceeds of their efforts without having to perform any of the organisation or planning. This is especially important for smaller organisations with limited resources. For sponsors, the involvement of many community groups means the Cook Community Classic significantly broadens its audience and raises its profile.
