The IMB Bank Cook Community Classic is a program of great community events that helps us appreciate, support and value the local Sutherland Shire community. It’s all about holding one great event that benefits many!
The primary focus of the IMB Bank Cook Community Classic is a large community event held each year in November at Cronulla Beach and the adjacent Cronulla Park. The Classic this year celebrates 10 years since its inception. Having grown from raising just over $3,000 with 4 charities to over 65 community organisations and over $840,000.
This year the event launch will be held on Monday 26 June at Elouera Surf Club, the Sylvania BMW / Caringbah Rotary Gala Ball will be held on 27 October at Doltone House Sylvania Waters capped off with the even finale at Cronulla Beach on Sunday 19 November.
Through a series of activities including a community carnival, a fundraising raffle, an open water swim and gala ball the “Classic” provides a fundraising platform for St George and Sutherland Shire community groups – including sports clubs, local charities, school P&Cs and other community organisations. They can participate in this large scale event without themselves having to attract sponsors, arrange prizes, organise venues and generate publicity to support their efforts. By pooling resources and holding one annual event smaller organisations can raise significant funds and awareness for their cause through the combined efforts of the Classic’s organising committee.
It is once again my great pleasure to serve as patron of the 2017 IMB Bank Cook Community Classic.
Now in its tenth year, the Classic is a great family day out, celebrating and supporting the local organisations that make our Shire community strong.
To date the Classic has raised over $840,000 for over 65 local charities and community organisations such as the 2nd Caringbah Scouts, Kookaburra Kids, Endeavour Seniors Computer Club, The Lioness Club of Sutherland Shire and many others including our four Bate Bay Surf Life Saving Clubs.
The IMB Bank Cook Community Classic relies on the generous support from our local surf life saving clubs and I thank once again Cronulla, North Cronulla, Elouera and Wanda for their willingness to support our wider community.
I also extend my sincere gratitude to our great corporate supporters, particularly IMB Bank who is once again the major sponsor. IMB Bank have been with the Classic since day one and are a major contributor to our local community. Additionally, we are thankful for the ongoing support of Qantas, Australian Hotels Association (AHA), Sydney Airport, Rotary Club of Caringbah, PAYCE, Woolooware Bay, Sharks, ANSTO, F45, Sutherland Shire Council, McDonald’s Sutherland Shire Restaurants, Westfield Miranda and Sylvania BMW. This year we also welcome another well known shire business, Highland Property Agents.
All the charities and community organisations supported through the Classic are run by dedicated staff, often volunteers, who make tremendous efforts to care for our community and beyond.
Please take the time to support these worthy organisations by purchasing a ticket in our charity raffle or by taking part in the many activities on the day, including the ocean swim, getting a team together for the beach handball, or just come along and enjoy the family carnival atmosphere.
I look forward to seeing you there,
